The History Behind Mandela's Art
In the early part of the new Millennium, Nelson Mandela turned his talented hand to creating a unique set of color sketches capturing the memories of his 17 year incarceration on Robben Island. The original set is owned by Oprah Winfrey who acquired them at auction in 2002 and took them home to Chicago.
The items profiled on this site are Lithographs of that famous set and include a “Motivation” written by Nelson and an actual print of his hand which has famously left an imprint the shape of the African continent.
All Lithographs are signed by Mandela and include certificates of authenticity. The edition was limited to 500 units of each piece. 250 of which were sold as full sets (excluding the Hand).
This site was created to market this unique set of color sketches (set number 353/500) and The Hand (set numbr 183/1000). Our prices are around 40% less than anything you will find in a gallery. i.e. you save on the gallery commission.
